Common hippos are large, semi-aquatic animals with predominantly nocturnal habits. In their natural habitat, they typically spend the day submerged in rivers or lagoons to protect themselves from the heat and solar radiation, and emerge at night to feed on land. At Safari Mallorca, the hippos have two pools in their enclosure, designed to allow them to freely choose which one to stay in. During the day, you'll likely see them resting or partially submerged in one of the pools.
